Characteristics
  • Big bold headline
  • Picture
  • Detailed
  • State, date, names, age
  • Background information
  • Different sections
  • Direct quotes from people involved and eye witnesses

Criteria
  • Make title stand out (different font size, make it want the reader to continue reading)
  • Add a picture that will make the reader want to continue reading (mug shot, devastation, children)
  • Add enough information to keep the readers interest, but don't add to much so that they want to stop reading
  • Add things that happened in the past that will clear up actions that took place (murderer being in mental hospital, gunman buying a lot of bullets over the last few weeks)
  • Break the article up into sections. The reader may only want to know about a certain part of the story, not the entire story
  • Use quotes to help prove points and let the reader know how people really felt.
  • Have complete thoughts and sentences.
